One of the most anticipated movie that everyone has been talking is the controversial Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice which was released in Philippine cinema recently. BvS is the movie everyone would want to see. But what made this movie so controversial is no other than Wonder Woman because basically she made Superman and Batman look like wimps!

Our new Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, had critics turning their heads on her. Even though a lot says that Gal did an amazing job being 2016 Wonder Woman (that includes me), there are still people who can’t help but compare Gal to the former TV series Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter. Critics number one complaint is that Gal is too “small” to be Wonder Woman. Why wouldn’t they? Lynda has set the standards of Wonder Woman’s body with her vitals 37-27-38. Gal, on the other hand, has vitals smaller than Lynda’s which are 32-24-34. Wonder Woman is beautiful, and both of them are beautiful (no complaints on that!)

Here is a clip from Jimmy Kimmel. Gal asked Jimmy what he about her breast thinking that it was what Jimmy wanted to know after saying he is a comic fanatic.

Gal Gadot stands 5.10 tall, just half inch taller than Lynda! What sets apart these two woman is their physique. Lynda’s body is (undeniably) very voluptuous while Gal has a model-like body. Aside from this, Lynda has these very beautiful sparkling blue eyes (which was rumored to be insured). Seriously! Lynda’s eyes are really beautiful until now. Meanwhile, Gal’s very Israeli accent is really sexy. But due to her small frame, critics have been complaining whether she is fit to be Wonder Woman (watch the movie! She is!)

Lynda won Miss World USA in 1972 representing her home state of Arizona, and represented the United States at the Miss World pageant as a semifinalist. Meanwhile, Gal bagged the title Miss Israel 2004 and travelled to Ecuador to compete in the Miss Universe at the age of 18.

Both also have the same passion and talent for acting. As an actress, Gal is known for her role which began in 2009 as Gisele in The Fast and Furious film series. Not only did she act for film but for television as well. She was also seen in different Israeli series and show, and appeared in different American series. Now, she will be playing Wonder Woman for the solo movie Wonder Woman which is scheduled for release on 2017, and Justice League (2017 and 2019). Aside from being an actress, Gal is also a model of leading international campaigns for Captain Morgan rum, Gucci fragrances, and Vine Vera skin care ranges, and has also advertised Jaguar Cars. She has also been featured as the cover girl on several magazines including Cosmopolitan and FHM. By 2013, her annual modeling salary was estimated at NIS 2.4 million.

On the other hand, Lynda’s showbiz career started out as early as five years old when she made her public television debut on Lew King’s Talent Show. After winning the title Miss World USA, she took acting lessons at several New York acting schools. Her first appearance was in an episode of a police drama Nakia (1974) entitled Roots of Anger. From then, she began making appearances TV shows such and in several “B” movies. Up until now, her acting career is still on the go. If Gal has a big love for modeling, Lynda has set her heart on singing. Even if she was playing Wonder Woman, she didn’t let go of her love for singing. She has sold four albums from 1978-2015 and has been recording original songs of the Fallout video game series, Fallout 4.

Both our Wonder Woman been acknowledged by different groups because of their beauty. Once, Lynda was voted “The Most Beautiful Woman in the World” by the International Academy of Beauty and the British Press Organization, and Gal was ranked fifth on the “50 Most Talented, Intelligent, Funny, and Gorgeous Jewish Women in the World”.

Wonder Woman in Real Life

They may not have their own golden lasso or indestructible gauntlets, but they are also heroes in their own little ways. Lynda has been an advocate and spokesperson for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (which her mother suffered for 30 years) and spend touring the country to inform people about it. One of the traits that made Wonder Woman stand out is her love for equality and Lynda has been doing it by supporting legal equality on LGBT people. Not only that but she is also an advocate and supporter of Susan G. Komen for the cure and Pro-Choice rights for women. Sounds like Wonder Woman in action? To add up to Lynda’s good deeds is an incident at the Potomac Boat Club where she found a body floating in the Potomac river while rowing out the club. She called out some fishermen to have the body pulled and waited for the police to arrive. She then stated that she “did what anyone would have done.”286DA07C00000578-0-image-m-80_1431036014633
Of course, Gal has her own heroic story to tell. After winning thetitle Miss Israel 2004, Gal served the Israel Defense Force for two years (I’ll be glad to surrenderGal!). And like Wonder Woman, she has a big heart and strong love for her country. That is one of the reasons why she chose to be part of the IDF.

Wonder Woman

The evolution of Wonder Woman from Lynda to Gal is indeed remarkable. We could not argue that 2016 Wonder Woman is stronger, wiser, and bolder. Even Lynda has commended the changes made (and approved Gal playing Wonder Woman).

Aside from the huge transformation in character of Wonder Woman, there are also super powers that the new Wonder Woman had. The Amazon blood that runs through her veins gave her enhanced hearing, vision, speed, strength, ability to be invulnerable and highly resistant to fire and massive force, and great regenerating powers. Wonder Woman Lynda has cool gadgets which includes the Lasso of Truth, unbreakable gauntlets that she uses to dodge bullets, the golden belt which she needs so that she can keep her powers while far from their world, a tiara that can be a boomerang, and a cool invisible jet (you’d see her maneuvering it in thin air).

BvS Wonder Woman Gal has shown some of her powers at the movie. She has all the super powers Lyndahas but not all the cool stuff Lynda have (‘cause she doesn’t have that invisible jet Comic fanatics are waiting). Instead, she was equipped with a cool shield and a sword. WB and DCU have revealed that there are more surprise powers we will see on her solo movie. So if I were you, I’d start writing down Wonder Woman on my movie bucket list this 2017.

Wanna know something about Wonder Woman’s shield? Here is a video you might want to take a look at:

William Moulton Marston, who invented Wonder Woman, envisioned herso specifically he once wrote:

Frankly, Wonder Woman is psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who should, I believe, rule the world. There isn’t enough love in the male organism to run the planet peacefully. Woman’s body containstwice as many love generating organs and endocrine mechanisms as the male. What woman lacks is the dominance of self-assertive power to put over and enforce her love desires. I have given Wonder Woman this dominant force, but have kept her loving, tender, maternal and feminine in every other way. Her bracelets, with which she repels bullets and other murderous weapons, represent the Amazon Princess’ submission to Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty. Her magic lasso, which compels anyone bound by it to obey Wonder Woman and which was given to her by Aphrodite herself, represents woman’s love charm and allure by which she compels men and women to do her bidding.

If this is how Marston describes Wonder Woman, then I guess our 1974 and 2016 Wonder Woman has given it justice. To play Wonder Woman is a great pleasure because being Wonder Woman does not stop when you have the looks. Wonder Woman is the epitome of an ideal woman. BvS has successfully portrayed Wonder Woman as the woman of the new millennia – strong and independent.
